The Bayete Zulu Game Lodge is located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Flights arrive from international destinations into Johannesburg Airport daily. You will need to change from the International terminal to the domestic for your flight to Durban, where a Bayete representative can collect you through prior arrangement. This is then followed by a 3.5 hour drive to the lodge.
The recommended route is to arrive into Johannesburg International Airport and then to take a connecting flight to Richards Bay Airport. Here a representative will collect you, followed by a scenic 1.20 hour drive through Zululand to the reserve.
For those of you who do not wish to make the journey by car, a charter flight can be arranged from Richards Bay to Mkuze, followed by a 20 minute drive to the lodge.
Directions to Bayete Zulu Game Lodge
From Durban
Take the N2 from Durban heading north past Richards Bay, then past Hluhluwe for 26 kilometres (16 miles). You will arrive at a petrol station/Baobab Inn on your right. Turn left onto the dirt road opposite this. Travel 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) until you reach the clearly marked gate on the right.
Bayete Zulu turn off is situated only 276 kilometres(171 miles) north of the Umhlanga / Mt Edgecombe / Gateway off ramp. The roads are in excellent condition and the journey time, dependent on the driver, is between 2.5-3 hours, including a petrol and refreshment stop.
It is recommended that you take a petrol and refreshment stop approximately 50 kilometres (31 miles) from Durban at Mvoti Ultra City/Plaza.
You do not need a 4x4 for this journey. The last 9 kilometres/5.6 miles is a good dirt road. In the unlikely event of heavy rains, call the lodge and a representative will meet you at the N2 to arrange safe parking for your vehicle and drive you to the lodge.
From Johannesburg
Follow the N2 to Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Turn off onto the new Northcoast road and follow the above. An alternate route can be followed heading towards Pongola then down to Mkuze until you reach the Baobab Inn then follow the directions listed above.
