Babanango Valley Private Nature Reserve, a Natural Heritage Site of outstanding scenic beauty covering 4000 hectares, has been described as one of the most beautiful valleys in northern KwaZulu Natal. This location, in the heart of Zululand, is the setting for the Zulu Heritage Village.

The Zulu Heritage Experience offered exposes guests to the traditional Zulu lifestyle and demonstrates the traditional culture of the Zulu people - the people of the heavens - and gives opportunity for meaningful discussions on:

  • The construction and layout of homesteads
  • Zulu customs, etiquette and dancing
  • Food preparation and beer tasting
  • Milking the cattle and the role of the cattle
  • Zulu medicine and the role of the Nyaga (herbalist)
  • The role of the Sangoma (diviner)

As part of the experience you get a chance to visit a rural Zulu homestead. This is a community based project in which seven families from a neighbouring community benefit.
